Gorean Careers

Female Careers
Gorean careers are quite frequently starting with a „position“ as a submissive, where new Roleplayers are guided through a sophisticated set of rules in their actions. To that purpose, nearly every sim offers training and teaching to a level of perfection.
Once these so called “Kajirae” achieved a good level of understanding, they are frequently teaching newcomers and welcoming visitors in the manner of a general club dancer. These roleplayers have had the opportunity to learn and reflect on Gor and roles on Gor and roleplay in their given set of rules.
About 90% of the new roleplayers do not stay in that position for more than 12-18 months. Sooner or later theys are ready to pick up a more responsible position in their group as a so called “Freewoman”, again with a slightly different but still tight set of rules that are to obey. Just like for the Kajirae there are certain “positions” that can be achieved, depending on time, skill and money. “Money” in this case has a major impact in that roleplayers now and then decide to purchase and run their own sim, frequently choosing a managing role in the roleplay as well.
The “kajir” position can be left out and the roleplayer can instantly start with a more advanced role as a freewoman. Learning that role is usually less standardized as there is more variance in these roles.
A lot of roleplayers start their SL Gor in a battling group, like outlaws, mercenaries or Panther groups. Female roleplayers have the advantage that they are quite unlimited on how interact with their fellow roleplayers. Since their role is less of a stereotype than that of a kajira or freewoman, these roles are easier to learn but more demanding in creativity.

Male Careers
The male roles on Gor are quite differing: Competion is low, as the percentage of male roleplayers is low. It is mainly for that reason that male roleplayers on Gor can roleplay whatever they like and how they like and get offered positions wherever they go to. A lot of sims offer their male roleplayers protected environments in that the use of combative roleplay is more or less drastically restricted to male combative roleplay (eg stronger males, no femlaws, no panther raids, no swords for females and others). Strict protective rules are a good starting point for males with low battle skills, either in terms of computer equipment and connection speed or in terms of actual skills to press the buttons (or to read and understand a bow manual).
However, mainly due to exactly these welcoming scenarios, the duration that a male roleplayer stays on gor is frequently shorter than that of a female counterpart. Whilst a lot of female roleplayers play inside a strict set of rules that are to learn before a certain degree of mastering that role can be achieved, the gorean male frequently needs not much knowledge or skill at all, shortening the gorean career considerably. Sims counteract that by implementing a ranking system, however rarely demanding a fixed level of skills, again causing discussions about “fairness” of promotions.

Male vs. Female Gor
Due to these factors, but also due to second life as such being less “action” and more "word" oriented, male goreans are comparatively scarce, despite all the marketing actions sims do. Even those sims that are more or less mainly inhabited by female groups are depending on male roleplayers to entertain their groups. Nudity used to be a marketing factor, however it is abundant in all of SL. Careers being less demanding and less time consuming might be a factor reducing male residence time. On the other hand the overwhelming share of females on Gor might be rising some interest, as competion between males is considerably lowered in comparison to real life.
However the low share of men on Gor strengthens traditional book oriented roleplay, since competition between female roleplayers for men is severe. As a result, male Gor is indeed quite princely.
Online sl gor reflects these factors quite well: Gor is mainly femalely managed and maintained, all that you have to do boys, is to ENJOY!!
Its easy enough, the only remaining question is:
MEN: WHERE ARE YOU???
